The Muslim, upon contemplating about his/her existence, quickly realises that Jannah (paradise) is the ultimate objective.
As a final and eternal abode of course, the overall ultimate objective is gaining the good pleasure of Allah Ta’aalah (The Most High).
Ask any Muslim “do you want Jannah?” And they will reply “yes” for sure.
The question is, how much do we really want Jannah, and how much does this affect our daily lives?
Ask yourself the same question I did, and you may be as shocked at your response as I was….
“Name me 10 things about Jannah“….I struggled!
It made me think that I can’t want something so badly if I hardly ever think about it, know little about, and haven’t actually realised it on my own mind.
There is a statement attributed to Ali ibn Abi Talib. may Allah Ta’aalah be pleased with him said:
“If Jannah and Jahannam (hell) are placed in front of me, these will increase nothing to my faith and trust.
Meaning, my faith in the unseen is so strong that I do not rely on even the vision of my healthy eyes in comparison to it.”
Ahmad
Meaning he is yearning for Jannah, and fearing the fire so much that even seeing them in front of him physically would not increase these feelings.
How can we achieve such yearning and make it a means of betterment in our lives? Some practical tips:
1. Learn about Jannah
Read the descriptions about it in the qur’aan, ahadith, and – it’s vast nature,
It’s beautiful pure rivers, it’s different entrances/gates with specific names and deeds which enable entry through them, palaces made from bricks of gold and silver…
2. Carry your Jannah with you
Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah Ta’aalah have mercy on him is reported have said:
“What can my enemies do to me?
My paradise and my garden are in my heart wherever I go and they are never separated from me…”
This reminds us that Jannah is not a fanciful or abstract place for us.
It is real, and we should build our own vision of Jannah and relationship with it, and carry it with us throughout all of lives struggles and challenges.
3. Finally, we should make constant dua for Jannah.
The one who asks this dua 3 times
Allaahumma innee as-aluka al – Jannah…
Oh Allaah I ask you for jannah”
Then Jannah itself will make dua to Allaah Ta’aalah to admit that Muslim in!
