Isolation Inspirations: Day 4 – “Dealing with Difficulty”

“Why do things always tend to get difficult for me…?”

Which should we expect?

Statement A – My life should be easy, with difficulty/hardship/struggle being the occasional exception or…

Statement B – My life should be difficult, with ease being the exception to the norm?

It’s an important question and unless answered properly, it can leave us feeling depressed at times.

It’s an interesting topic and cannot be understood fully as ultimately Our Creator, is the Most Wise.

Only He knows why he sets particular tests for particular servants at particular times, some more than others.

However, it is important to have the right perspective to understand this topic.

For example, “YOLO” (You Only Live Once) i.e. life is one big party that should allow for maximising sensual pleasures and living life in a relatively care free manner.

This way of life alludes to the 1st statement mentioned above.

If we adopt this mindset and forget our true purpose which is to be tested, as mentioned in the following verse,

[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed – and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving” (67:2)

Likewise, when difficulty finds its way to us, it will confuse us, and upset us too.

It is the core of our belief to believe that all good and all bad come from our Lord.

Perceivably good things e.g. health, wealth, family, marriages, births etc. are all blessings from the Most Generous.

Which we should be grateful for in our hearts, on our tongues, and by way of our actions.

All events we perceive as bad e.g. deaths, poverty, sickness etc. are a test we have been promised.

“We will certainly test you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and fruits (earnings); but give glad tidings to the persevering and patient…” (2:155)

Our purpose in this temporary, transitory life is to deal with inevitable tests in a manner pleasing to the Most High

Chasing His Good Pleasure and Mercy, and ever ascending in closeness to Him.

Having this ongoing mindset of expectation and preparation for testing times, provides real solace at that time of affliction.

It provides a level of comfort and tranquility deep down, safety in the knowledge of a higher purpose, and the understanding that our Most Kind Creator has chosen us for a test, to raise us and bring us closer to Him.

It’s a unique and refreshing viewpoint to have, one that we’re extremely blessed to have,

Alhamdulillah (All praise is to God).

We see the despair, anxiety and depression that the lack of this understanding causes, all around us today.

So, the next time we go through any difficulty, remember it was always bound to happen, we’re here to be tested, and it is how we react that counts.

Finally, it should inspire a little smile deep down knowing that our Creator has chosen us and given us an opportunity to increase our ranks and get closer to Him!
