Isolation Inspirations: Day 5 – Loneliness

Being isolated in one room can feel lonely, as can the wider lockdown situation.

It’s not as easy to visit family and friends anymore.

We find this difficult because ultimately we are social beings who want to love, and be loved, and to interact with others.

Loneliness can have a whole host of detrimental effects on one’s spiritual, mental, and physical being.

I’m blessed for all the family and friends I have had keeping in touch with me daily over the phone.

Imagine somebody is having a difficult time, feeling lonely, and your phone call or text puts a smile on their face and makes them feel happy!

Reach out to family and friends as often as you can!

Although as believers we are not limited to just our family and friends.

We see the billions around the world as one body:

“The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.”

al-Bukhārī

We have a link of brotherhood between each and every believer regardless of colour, gender, social status or any other factor.

We love each other and want best for each other.

No physical borders can divide our brotherhood.

When the believers are united they become a beacon of humanity, a glorious example of mercy.

The same way we care for each other in our support bubbles, we need to expand this genuine compassion for those who we come across in a day to day lives.

In these testing times, we should also show compassion to those globally who are also part of this ummah (whole community of believers)

We need to keep this ummah in our dua’s (prayers), in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in our actions by learning more about how we can improve our sense of unity.

Let us develop our compassion by physical actions, reaching out to those you may feel are lonely.

If you feel lonely then reach out.

There are many organisations offering support for the tortured mind. For the soul, the Houses of God are always discreetly open and are full of soft hearted believers.

If these are not possible then do look into more how believers in the past faced trials which also included periods of loneiless or isolation.

In these isolated times may the Most Merciful help us to reconnect with Him.

May He give us the ultimate contentment of our souls in this life and the hereafter.
