Isolation Inspirations Day 7
So many of us have lost loved ones recently, and in fact it is an ongoing test we all face at some point or another, as per the statement.
“We will certainly test you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and fruits (earnings); but give glad tidings to the persevering and patient”
(2:155)
It’s easy to dwell on the excuse of death e.g. Corona virus, cancer, car crash or whatever else it may be, and often we turn the excuse into the actual reason or cause for death.
Especially in unusual circumstances such as a young healthy person dying suddenly.
How many times have we heard “he/she had their whole life ahead of them”.
Well actually, no, they didn’t even have one second remaining ahead of them.
Corona virus, cancer or any other illness do not kill in and of themselves,
Only our Creator can give and take life as per His statement,
“He (is the only One Who) gives life and causes death, and to Him you will (all) be returned.”
(10:56)
A simple, yet massively empowering concept in our perfect deen teaches us that our lifespan is fixed:
“And spend from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, ‘My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.’
But never will Allah delay a soul when its time has come. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do”
(23:10-11)
Allah in His perfect, infinite knowledge wrote down our lifespans as part of His decree in the prescribed/protected tablet (al-Lawh al-Mahfooz) 50,000 years before He created all creation.
This means our exit date/time/place down to the very second is already fixed and predetermined before we were even conceived.
Scary in many ways when we think about it, we all have our own alarm clock ticking away, our own sand dune timing the remaining years, months, weeks, days, minutes, seconds we have left to pass the test of this life before the eternal hereafter.
Now of course, Allaah has created a worldly system for us, part of which comprises of illnesses, medicines, us looking after our bodies as an amaanat (trust) from Him.
We are part and parcel of this system, but this concept of our lifespan being fixed is very strong, and provides so much peace and comfort when needed most.
This should remind us that we should never say, think, or even feel that somebody was taken too soon, or taken by an illness or virus.
As this was merely the means, not the cause, and their time was up.
If it wasn’t Covid it would have been something else at that very same moment in time.
All praise and thanks belongs to Allah who has provided us with a complete, perfect way of life, which empowers us, and provides us peace tranquility and sanity.
