There are reports of Muslims arriving before Columbus in America before the 15th century but many arrived in the early 16th century.
After Columbus’ voyage in 1492 the Europeans decided to colonise the “New World”.
They had intended to enslave the native Americans but failed.
Many were killed at the hands of the Europeans but millions more died due to the diseases that were brought back from Europe.
The colonialists looked to West Africa and traders arrived there to buy as many slaves possible.
Most of the slaves were prisoners of war.
The slave traders would buy slaves from the African Kings in exchange for weapons which would then be used to capture more slaves.
Around 15-20 million slaves were taken to America and the number of Muslim slaves were between 3-6 million.

In the 1800s in Brazil there was a huge demand for Arabic Qurans from slaves in Rio.
The Muslim slaves would work for years on end just to purchase a Quran
One book trader would import 100 Arabic Qurans a year alone
