TARIKH TUESDAY: Islam in Africa

Islam came to Africa at the time of the Prophet and spread during the period of the 4 rightly guided caliphs. The coastal areas experienced the truthfulness and honesty of the Muslim traders and many of them settled there bringing trade as well as Islam to the locals.

The first Muslim kingdom in west Africa was Mali in the 1200s. It became extremely rich due to trade and the river Delta. The wealth and power truly came to light under the King Mansa Musa and his epic journey Hajj.
